Must have!!!

As a rookie to fashion illustration,like myself, this book covers all the bases. Providing great tips and loads of inspiration, this book is a must have. I've learned more in 20 minutes with this book than I did taking an illustration course. From color theory to movement Jennifer Lilya nails it each time. I highly recommend this for every fashionista wanting to expand their creativity.

First off, I think it's pretty obvious that I'm a Stormie Omartian fan. I've read several of her Power of a Praying... books and I plan to continue to read more. She's helped me tremendously on my journey to a better prayer life.

I sought out The Power of Prayer to Change Your Marriage when my husband and I hit a bump in the road in our own marriage (what marriage doesn't have those?) and despite having The Power of a Praying Wife, I felt like I needed something different--something more. And so I ended up getting The Power of Prayer to Change Your Marriage. As with the other Power of a Praying... books that I've read, I took this one slow in order to maximize information retention. And there came a point where our marriage felt more stable and secure and I didn't feel the urgent need to press on in the book like I once did, so I put it down for a spell.

The wonderful part about this book is that you and your marriage don't need to be struggling in order for you to benefit from this book. Ms. Omartian's books usually follow the pattern of a different topic per chapter. Within the chapter, she discusses the topic at length and provides a sample prayer and scripture (Promises from God) on the subject. But The Power of Prayer to Change Your Marriage went another step. She included three prayers at the end of each chapter. The first prayer was always a Prayer of Protection. This prayer is designed to protect you, your spouse, and your marriage from experiencing this particular problem to begin with. Or if you both struggle with the issue, it helps to cover you both in this area. Next was a Prayer for Breakthrough in Me. This obviously covers if you are the partner struggling with the topic of the chapter. And finally, she included a Prayer for Breakthrough in My Spouse designed to cover your spouse should he/she be the one struggling with the chapter topic.

Because each chapter included the three different prayers at the end, I felt each topic discussed was covered in every way possible. Most of the time, I found that even if I didn't think we as a couple or I individually was struggling with a particular chapter topic, once I read and prayed the prayers she included, I realized that I needed improvement more than I originally thought.

As I always feel led to include in my review of any Christian book, Stormie Omartian's books do not contain the standard. They do contain Scripture and I have learned much from her. But I find that there are some things she says that I don't 100% agree with. And so while I do recommend anyone and everyone I can to read her books, we must always compare what man says against what God says. The Source for truth is and always will be the Bible--God's Word.

One I thing I know for certain, you can't pray for your marriage and not see improvement in yourself, your spouse, and/or your marriage. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you (James 4:8).

This book has helped my love grow for my husband! Prayer is the most important part of our marriage. Without it God doesn't seem to be in the middle. I recommend this book to anyone looking for that little something, that extra help is pray.

A Must Read For Serious Readers

My overall 2nd favorite book and -by far -favorite science fiction story. This book and the entire original 6-novel story taught me more about politics, ecology, psychology and the human condition than all of my schooling combined. A must read for anyone that seeks insight into why we do the things we do and how to really read others and sharply tune-in to what's going on around you, but it'll take concentrated reading and possibly a re-read or two for it to truly sink in. Admittedly, it is a typical sci-fi epic as far as "boy struggles, boy overcomes, boy rules" -but you have to take in mind the time of its writing: the late sixties. Besides, there are so many other strong characters that I find myself identifying with a new one on each re-read -and the plot twists and possible future for mankind can be mind-bending for new readers. I recommend this book for any and all book lovers, whether it's mystery, romance, science, technology, psychology, ecology, social, politics, hero or epic fantasy as your favorite genre, this novel touches on it all. Pity they've never been able to make a series of movies to give it justice.

Good story, odd physical size

My biggest complaint here is about the book itself. Why, oh why, does this publisher insist on making this book and inch taller than every other paperback every made! OK, slight exaggeration, but it's bigger than 99% of the paperbacks on my book shelf. It is a non-standard size. Because of that, I'm still looking for another copy of this book, because this one won't fit comfortably on my book shelf with the rest of the series, I have to keep it on the shelf for odd sized books. It's also twice as thick as the other books, unnecessarily. I had another copy of this book that fell apart, and it was standard size, like the rest of the series.

Otherwise, it's a good book with a good story. Not the greatest book every, but still holds up today.

Feudal houses in an interplanetary game of thrones

The critical acclaim is warranted for this space epic set in a complex world of feuding houses. I picked it up after finishing A Song of Ice and Fire / Game of Thrones and thoroughly enjoyed it. The first book is tightly focused on a morally ambiguous hero as he leads a guerrilla movement against the ruling powers. I'm looking forward to exploring more of the world as the series continues. It richly explores themes of power, religion, ecology/sustainability. Female characters are powerful and complex but tied to gender roles/stereotypes in a way that feels a little dated. Otherwise a very compelling page-turner in a well constructed world. It has stood the test of time well.

A comprehensive treatment

This one of several cookbooks created by the CIA, (Culinary Institute of America). It offers a broad overview of the art and craft of cold food preparation. It covers all the basic techniques and offers contemporary takes on many classic approaches. This is not a book for a novice cook, or a casual cook. This is intended for a professional or a highly dedicated amateur audience. All the recipes are for large er quantities, 10 or more servings and it refers to many pieces of equipment that even an advanced home cook may not have access to.

The book is very informative. As with all the cookbooks from the CIA, it puts emphasis on understanding the success factors for each class of food preparation, be it cold soups, sandwiches, terrines and pates etc. It is extremely well illustrated, the photography is excellent, and well written. The various recipes can be a bit cryptic, but you have to remember that they assume the audience it is written for has proficiency in many of the fundamental cooking skills. All the recipes are what I call foundational recipes, meaning that once you master them you can easily introduce your own creative touches. It is a very expensive cookbook but if you are a serious cook and want to go beyond just copying recipes then it is a good value for the investment.
