The best adventure stories are the ones that are true

Seeing no reviews here, I thought I would add my take. I have had this book for many years, and I keep coming back to it periodically to refresh the stories in my mind. This book chronicles a good cross section of the hazardous life of a B-17 bomber crew over Nazi Europe. There are stories of survival and loss in this book that are made more amazing by the fact that it is all true. You can't make this stuff up. The 8th Air Force took a horrific beating while flying strategic missions over a very powerful and aggressive Nazi resistance. There are photos throughout the book of planes so torn apart by enemy action that they never flew again, but somehow made it back to England. There are also the sad stories of the demise of many hundreds and thousands of planes. The life expectancy of a B-17 crew was less than the length of their tour of duty, but they kept flying. Thousands of airmen were lost among the bomber crews over Germany, but the formations kept coming, nearly daily. The planes came by the hundreds, and even in excess of 1000 planes on many missions. Can you imagine looking up to see over 1000 planes in the sky at the same time, in tight formation? Bomber streams over 5 miles long, and also miles high. We'll never see that again. Can you imagine bringing home a plane so badly torn up in the air that the crew had to resort to tying sections together with parachute harnesses just to make it home? Can you imagine manning a machine gun in an open waist window at 30,000 feet in temperatures around 30 below zero? On a 6 to 8 hour mission?

I pray along with countless others that we never need to witness this kind of bloodshed again, but I also say prayers of thanks that men like these were there when they were called to service.

this is probably the best book about the wonderful Flying Fortresses . .. . my husband flew in one in WWII and he recommended this book to everyone, also bought copies for all the boys in the family.

Dr. Jonathan Prousky, BPHE, B.Sc., ND, FRSH, studied at Bastyr University (Seattle) and the National College of Naturopathic Medicine (Portland, Oregon). He is the Chief Naturopathic Medical Officer, the Associate Dean of Clinical Education, and an Associate Professor of Clinical Nutrition at The Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine. He has published in such medical journals as Townsend Letter for Doctors & Patients and the Journal of Orthomolecular Medicine.

A Clinical Guide to Complementary and Restorative Treatments

With its wealth of clinical information, well organized and clearly explained, this insightful text recommends restorative treatments and offers research as evidence. With ten years of clinical experience, seeing patients with various health problems including psychiatric disorders, author Jonathan Prousky, ND, MSc knows about the healing capabilities of nutritional regimens, even for anxiety, ADHD, autism, alcoholism, bipolar disorder, depression and schizophrenia. While the author did not address this medical text to laymen, Prousky's accessible writing style makes scientific and medical information understandable to every reader, no matter what their education. Prousky presents clinical pearls about nutrition and nutrients. He encourages readers to learn about naturopathic and orthomolecular care, cooperate with differential diagnostic workups and consider the benefits of regimens of vitamins, trace minerals and amino acids i.e. supplements.

Abram Hoffer's preface states that readers can trust Prousky's reports. After meeting Jonathan Prousky and reading many books about orthomolecular medicine, I agree. Prousky's book reminds me of Dr. Hoffer's Orthomolecular Medicine for Physicians (OMP), printed in 1989 and no longer easy to find. Hoffer's book still reads fresh and clear today. Prousky's clinical guide adds current information. Fortunate readers of both books will realize that Jonathan Prousky has carefully studied Abram Hoffer's research and clinical findings. Prousky not only learned how to help his patients restore their health, but he also writes about restorative care and he teaches orthomolecular principles and practices to naturopaths-in-training. Prousky's textbook explains the healing power of complementary naturopathic and orthomolecular practices. He encourages medical students and health professionals to read about orthomolecular medicine and consider nutritional regimens. Some professionals may follow Prousky's example and document the progress of their patients by writing their own books and medical journal articles. Hopefully this will help to sustain orthomolecular medicine for decades to come.

Prousky's important clinical textbook belongs in the libraries of a wide readership where his excellent information can bring clinical help and hope for restoring health to thousands of patients. If sick and vulnerable people trust quick labels and easy shortcuts and only get toximolecular pills, they are unlikely to heal as well as patients whose health professionals read Prousky's comprehensive clinical guide and learn to assess nutritional and biochemical aspects and recommend restorative regimens as complements to other treatment modalities.

Prousky's 2008 book shares their discovery, which was confirmed by other doctors in 1962, but remained little-known for the past fifty years. Within one day, those three amino's eased my discomfort.

In my opinion this text lacks adequate scientific explanation and underpinning. Topic selection, explanation and scope are severely limited. Disappointing, coming from an author with this caliber of education and experience.

About the Author

James M. Rubenstein received his Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University in 1975. He was Professor of Geography at Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, where he taught urban and human geography, and where he helped develop the new Sustainability co-major in the Institute for the Environment & Sustainability.

He is also the author of Pearson’s The Cultural Landscape and Introduction to Contemporary Geography. He is often invited to give talks and presentations at colleges, high schools, and professional meetings.

�

Rubenstein works as a regional consultant for the Chicago Federal Reserve Bank and he conducts research in the automotive industry. He is often interviewed by the media on automotive and economic issues, and has published three books on the subject: The Changing U.S. Auto Industry: A Geographical Analysis (Routledge); Making and Selling Cars: Innovation and Change in the U.S. Auto Industry (The Johns Hopkins University Press); and Who Really Made Your Car? Restructuring and Geographic Change in the Auto Industry (W.E. Upjohn Institute, with Thomas Klier).

He is a semi-amateur, semi-professional painter, and displays his work at galleries in Maryland and Ohio.

I am glad that some professors allow students to choose whether or ...

Required book for a college course that is now requiring a new book to be purchased with a one-time-use access code. It seems that publishers are finding new ways to avoid sustainability and circumvent the used book market by making colleges assign these new book bundles. I am glad that some professors allow students to choose whether or not they want to buy the bundle, which includes some extras including study guides, or opt out and buy/rent the used books and save money. At NVCC in Manassas, every class this semester "required" the access code bundles at $150-278 a book. Multiply that by 6 classes and you get a cost-prohibitive situation for most students. I was glad that find this book as an inexpensive rental, and I'll go the extra mile and scour the book for my answers and make my own study guide. If it costs me a half a grade or more, it may be worth it to be able to afford college.

The 1st , 2nd , and the third chapter are separate from the book itself . It is hard to study with a book whose pages will fall down any minute' besides, it is very imbarceing using this book in class . But Thankfully, we have page numbers :)

About the Author
Lee Anne Peck, Ph.D., is associate professor of journalism and mass communications in the School of Communication at the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley. Lee Anne Peck has taught English, journalism, and communications courses since 1988. Before teaching at UNC, she was assistant professor of international communications at Franklin College Switzerland, Lugano. Over the years, she has advised three student newspapers. Peck's professional experience began in 1976 as a correspondent for the Moline (Ill.) Daily Dispatch. She then edited and then managed the Northern Colorado Choice Magazine of the Front Range. In the mid-1980s, she edited and wrote for publications in Indiana and Delaware; she has worked for the Fort Collins Coloradoan as an editor, a columnist and writing coach and for the Rocky Mountain News as a copy editor. Peck has also worked at the Tampa Tribune's online product, Tampa Bay Online, and for Microsoft's online publication, Denver Sidewalk. Guy Reel, Ph.D., is associate professor of mass communication at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, S.C. A former newspaper reporter and editor for The Commercial Appeal of Memphis, Tenn., Reel teaches journalism and mass communication and has written extensively about issues in journalism and communication history. He is author of The National Police Gazette and the Making of the Modern American Man, 1879-1906 (2006), a study of portrayed masculinities in 19th Century tabloids. He received his Ph.D. from Ohio University, his master's from the University of Memphis and his undergraduate degree from the University of Tennessee.

Because Truth is Stranger Than Fiction...

When it comes to ethics, it's all very well and good to discuss philosophers, but when dealing with real-life situations, isn't it better to have a modern example of what real people did? This is just what "Media Ethics at Work" provides, as well as how people feel about their decisions later. It is also a very gripping book, with each chapter covering a case. While all deal with important ethical issues, some chapters are more compelling than others. Two chapters that will stay with me are about the unexpected consequences of covering a gruesome death and the exposure of a professor harming his students by withholding their grades. Another story that will stay with me is more lighthearted; while it addresses some serious ethical issues, the chapter featuring the groundhog had me laughing hysterically.
