About the Author
David Baker attributes his fascination with wine to a chance train stop in Beaune which led to time spent working in commercial vineyards, a film, a novel and a dozen years making passable pinot noir in his garage. He holds an MFA from Columbia College Chicago and is the director of American Wine Story. He currently lives in Oregon's Willamette Valley with his wife and daughter.

Genuinely the worst

I had to have this book for my corporate finance class in college. The author is my department head. This book presents the material in the absolute worst way possible. I have never been so dissatisfied with a "textbook." The author decided to preface each section with a personal story telling session attempting to incorporate the material you're learning. When you finally get to the formulas, there's so much wordiness and MORE story telling, that I couldn't figure out what the hell it was even saying a lot of the time unless I read it 10 times. If he had just been straight to the point and listed the formulas and in a FEW short words explained the significance, students could learn and remember it better. Finance is math heavy, and this was not presented like math books normally present material. This book should not be used. Get ready to be incredibly annoyed.

WORST "TEXTBOOK" EVER

WORST "TEXTBOOK" EVER. struggling with this course because of how terrible this book is. There is no need for these stories in the book. I need a real textbook not this story telling bs. Finance is already challenging enough, this book makes it 10x harder.

Great foundations - simple, easy, and entertaining to follow

I am a small business owner with no background in finance. I picked up the audio version of this book to listen to while I travel and exercise. I was so drawn in by the content that I purchased the print version so I could read it more carefully and work through the problem sets.
The format draws the reader into the book in a way that typical textbooks cannot. Aside from just the facts, it provide an experiential summary of the topics by teaching through storytelling, which forces imagination and empathetic learning. At the end of the book, the reader feels that they have experienced something (as opposed to memorized) from which they learned the basics of finance. I would not be surprised if this becomes a standard teaching technique in the future.
