I gave it as a gift to my mom for Mother's Day. She is also gluten-free (GF) and kind of a pioneer in GF baking; though the irreverence of this book was definitely pushing the envelope in our mother/son gift-giving relationship, she ended up loving it.

Hysterical. April Peveteaux will make you pee your pants while simultaneously saving you from pooping them. Gluten is my Bitch is a must-read for gluten intolerants/anyone looking to cut down on gluten/all humans who appreciate delicious food and laughing while reading things.

Read the title and knew I had to get it for my sister's bday as we are new on the gf experience. Loved her honest opinion and sharing of experiences. Have already made several of the recipes and already family favorites. My favorite thing was her husbands comment "Somebody please send me some gluten!" Hahah

The information in this book is worthwhile, but the poor editing and proofreading make it difficult to read. The mistakes, both typographical errors and sometimes tortured prose, were so frequent as to prove distracting to someone reading at any level of detail.

A Great Business Aviation Operations and Management Tutorial

Any reader who has been in business aviation even for a short period of time will easily resonate with this excellent work. It provides practical guidance and direction for both an experienced person and the beginner. The authors have clearly been in aviation operations and management for some time and been involved in a variety of operational scenarios. Their perspective and advice will be of value to all, be they pilot, mechanic, scheduler, manager or corporate executive.

I particularly liked the standard operating procedures, human resources and safety management systems chapters. They were all very good, inclusive summaries and guides for those essential topics.

If you're looking for background, guidance, counsel or advancement in the field of business aviation this is an excellent guide and learning tool.

About the Author
M. Gordon Hunter is Professor of Information Systems in the Faculty of Management at The University of Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. Gordon has previously held academic positions at universities in Canada, Singapore, and Hong Kong. He has held visiting positions at universities in Australia, Monaco, Germany, New Zealand, and the U.S. During July and August of 2005 Gordon was a Visiting Erskine Fellow at the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand.

Felix B Tan is Professor of Information Systems and Chair of Business Information Systems discipline at Auckland University of Technology (New Zealand). He serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Global Information Management. He is on the Executive Council and is Fellow of the Information Resources Management Association. He was also on the Council of the Association for Information System between 2003-2005. Dr. Tan s current research interests are in electronic commerce, global information management, business-IT alignment, and the management of IT. Dr. Tan has published in MIS Quarterly, Information & Management, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, IEEE Transactions on Personal Communications, Information Systems Journal, Journal of Information Technology, International Journal of Human-Computer Interaction, International Journal of Electronic Commerce, as well as other journals and refereed conference proceedings. Dr. Tan has over 25 years experience in information systems management and consulting with large multinationals, as well as university teaching and research in Singapore, Canada, and New Zealand.

I was given an ARC copy in return for an honest review -

I wanted to like this story, I truly love reading about the MC worlds. This book was a bit too unrealistic for my taste and the ending **SPOILER ALERT** not happy that after finding each other they lose each other...not cool...

I did enjoy reading this story

This book seemed to be off to a fairly strong start and definitely grabbed my attention, but it didn't continue at that level throughout. I really wish I could give it a higher rating, but it just didn't quite meet the needed expectations. Overall, I did enjoy reading this story, but I believe these 2 authors could have produced a better quality book -- pieces of this storyline should have been more fully developed (instead of just "dropping in" 1 or 2 sentences in hope of explaining things or trying to support details).
Parts of this book were just TOO unrealistic and fake-- such as the instantaneous outpouring of feelings & "soulmatedness" between Devlin and Logan during their first really intimate moment (24 hours after they first meet) AND the way that Logan suddenly becomes a "badass" who fairly easily attacked and killed her 2 captors near the end.
Also, I really appreciated the attempt to convey the power, respectfulness and value of a good D/s relationship -- unfortunately, the details shared during the book seemed too random, underdeveloped and shallow to support the more intense level of D/s that Devlin seemed to need.

Next run they make will probably be to Disneyland, the Circle of Death (and Depraved) are NOT to be believed as described.

I would have given this book a 3 Star "It's OK" rating if the description hadn't been so misleading and I don't want readers to think they are getting something that is absolutely not there.

This story could easily be picked up by Pixar and made into a PG-13 movie. There is nothing depraved about it, there isn't any steamy sex, and if you're looking for even the merest touch of BDSM, it's not in here.

The authors remind me of young boys (although they are female) sneaking a peek into a National Geographic magazine to see women's bosoms, giggling all the while to themselves. This seems to be their idea of depraved.

It's a lovely little love story that you have read in about a million forms one time or another, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING nothing that you are led to believe is here. I hate to think this way, but I have a feeling the other reviewers must be friends and/or relatives of the authors.

Dr. Fast Nails It!...An Inspiring and Important Read for Educators, Administrators, and Parents...

"It's the Mission, Not the Mandates" is a refreshing and inspiring read for anyone interested in improving public education in America. This book provides much needed hope for educators, administrators, policymakers, students, and parents that they can create passion and inspiration for learning in our public schools.

Dr. Fast is a passionate educator who expertly articulates the seemingly overwhelming challenges faced by America's educators and administrators. She defines with precision the changes that need to be made to motivate teachers to become exceptional educators and inspire students to do their best, masterfully identifying the "sweet spot" that has the potential to change the trajectory of students' lives and improve the health of our communities.

Dr. Fast demonstrates how America's public schools have lost their way and provides a clear path for improving public education, improving students' lives, and improving society. "It is not an exaggeration to say that those in the field of education are in the business of changing the world. Educators know that children are the key to improving society, that they are the future of our communities, and there is no work more important than investing in that future."

I especially appreciate that Dr. Fast provides an important and overdue voice for all stakeholders in public education, expressing the concerns of administrators, teachers, and students facing overwhelming pressure to maintain the "laser-like focus" that schools across America are being begged to employ, the problem being when that "laser-like focus" begins to function more like tunnel-vision.

Dr. Fast calls out the systematic demoralization of teachers who, day in and day out, try their hardest to do what is best for their students only to be told that they are failing by mandated measures that seem arbitrary. She provides an important voice for students who have been required to sit through what seems like pointless instruction that does not feel relevant to their lives or their futures.

She discusses the various expectations that business leaders, politicians, civic leaders, and parents have of public schools, including, but not limited to, preparing students for college, creating responsible citizens to ensure that our country continues to nurture the ideals of freedom and equality; preparing students for the global economy so America can maintain its competitive edge; the need to instill better moral compasses in our children by teaching social skills; self-monitoring strategies; responsibility to the greater good; and a respect for authority. There are others who want schools to provide free child care and free meals, develop students' self-esteem, teach life skills and good work habits to combat the effects of bad parenting, promote good health, and provide vocational preparation.

But most importantly, "It's the Mission, Not the Mandates" provides a clear path for improving America's public schools. This book is exceptionally well-written and well-researched, and Dr. Fast is clearly passionate about improving students' lives through inspiring education. Interesting philosophy on current issues in public education

"if you want to build a ship, don't drum up people together to collect wood and don't assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea." Dr. Fast describes in clear detail the current disconnect between what society truly needs from public education and what is being asked of it. The philosophical point of view detailed in this book will resonate with anyone concerned about the state of public education today. This book needs to be in the hands of not just teachers and administrators. It will definitely speak to the hearts of those who public education serves as well.

Join the Revolution!

This book is a must read for anyone who has anything to do with education, but especially for those contemplating going into the profession. Unless you are willing to be part of the “revolution” which Dr. Fast suggests, you should walk away. Have no doubt that the descriptions that Dr. Fast portrays in describing the state of education today and the stakeholders involved are overwhelming but highly accurate.

Teaching is, or was, a second career for me; one I felt called to do later in life, not only to help young people but also because I wanted to know why so many were failing to become successful. Many people advised me not to do it, but being hardheaded I knew I had to find out for myself. I was determined to work in a school that was failing, because I knew that was where I would find the truth. My experiences in and out of the classroom over the last five years have been an eye opening training in itself. A month ago I walked away from my high school Civics class so disillusioned by a system that seems determined, albeit unintentionally, to destroy itself. I am thankful I found this very inspiring work by Amy Fast.

As I read the book, so many memories came flooding in, i.e., being told to focus on the “bubble” students, to manage the classroom by controlling students through rewards and force, being led by well-intentioned administrators whose sole focus had become moving their school performance score up so many points, and too many teachers who were just waiting until they could retire or move to a better school. If teacher apathy wasn’t enough, one of the biggest obstacles I encountered was student apathy that was ingrained by the time they made it to high school. Learning had no purpose for them but was only what they had to do until they moved on to the next class. The advice I always received was to be more engaging, but my question was always “How do I engage young people whose life and educational experiences have left them with no ability or even the desire to self-regulate long enough to be engaged?”

The beauty of It’s the Mission, not the Mandates: Defining the Purpose of Public Education, however, is not simply its accuracy, but the fact that it gives hope and strategies for real change. I have argued for much of what Dr. Fast advocates, without much success. The process is not something that will be easy or overnight. As she advises, it will definitely take a full-fledged revolution and not just reformation. It is not something that individual teachers can achieve, because it requires and demands all stakeholders participate. I may not see the end of the war for our children’s future, but I definitely intend to try and be a stirring force that keeps the embers glowing. When I left the classroom, I needed to see in black and white what it takes to make education work and that it can be accomplished. This wonderful book conveys the passion it takes to do this successfully. Thank you Dr. Fast!

I first found this book in a dumpster behind a school. I was 6 years old and read this book. Many of the concepts were easy enough to understand as a youngster. I will never forget the concept of 3phase electricity that I grasped from that book. Thanks to this book I have put instrumentation on the International Space Station and work with Femtosecond laser systems.

My all time favorite basic electricity book.

I'm a power plant operator. I've had to take basic electricity courses for job promotions, (after taking a written test). This is the only book written (that my co-workers and I have had to study) that you can learn from on your own. The other books seemed to be written for a classroom setting, with an instructor.
